Spring into Summer

When Christmas is over, New Years has gone and everyone is back at work, there is still one thing that can bring a smile to any fashionistas face…. Spring/Summer Fashion Week.  Even though the temperatures are still cold and the de-icer is still in use, the sight of pastels and neon in dresses and skirts brings the excitement of summer and warms the cockles of our designer handbags.  And in true to fashion form, the High Street has quickly followed suits with many stores with their fashion forward Spring trends already rolled out as well as summer essentials on sale such as bikinis and sandals.  Topshop’s Spring Trends are bright and clean, and all completely different from one another.  South Pacific is an embodiment of clashing colours, leopard and Versace inspired chain prints, with key pieces being bright coloured jeans, silk bombers and mini dresses.  Boatrace is at the otherend of the spectrum, being the quintessential British woman’s trend, very English Rose and preppy chic.  Key pieces for this trend include polka dots, girly blazers and full skirted dresses, and is replicated in many stores across the HS, but none do it quite so well as Toppers.  Surf Luxe is Topshop’s reinvention of one of its past trends DOWNTOWN with cleaner lines, neon pops, and sexy dresses.  The brands range of Dress Up sits within this trend, which is made up essentially of smart jogger-style trousers, gym-style bralets, slouchy blazers, leather jackets and sequinned dresses.  This is the ultimate going out trend and has already been hit up by many celebrities, who I cannot name in order to protect the brand’s integrity.

Other stores across the HS have also fully embraced the Spring/Summer feeling, most worth mentioning being that of River Island.  RI has come over all 60’s, with hippy prints and pastel colours taking over the brand’s dresses, jackets and pants.  As usual RI’s heels are statement and high, and become the perfect accompaniment to the paisley printed dresses with lime green and pastel pink, the floral trousers and the pretty vests that are dazzling the high street.

H&M has really upped its game, going on the floral offensive and creating value-for-wear statement pieces that girls with the smallest budget can pick up and pop on.  Zara’s luxurious dresses and beautiful bags give any girl an excuse to RSVP to any occasion that comes their way.

So I propose to the girls that we say so long to Winter, goodbye to tights and socks, au revoir to gloves, fur and big coats and a big HELLO to the new pieces just waiting to be loved.
